Welcome to our Martial Arts Academy!
Jenny and I are excited to announce the Grand Opening of NAK² Martial Arts Academy. We are officially open and enrolling new students. Our Academy will feature three distinct programs. We offer Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Kick Booty, women only fitness bootcamp.
At NAK² Academy, the programs are very different but the principles we believe in are the same.:
- Our training environment is safe. Beginners and Advanced students alike are encouraged to train for life and better health.
- Hard work and technique are everything. Our professional coaching will get you the results you are looking for.
- We are building a community. Be part of a group with goals and a positive outlook on life.
Safety means having a place you can start as a beginner and not be intimidated or concerned about getting hurt. We have beginner only classes in every program to insure that you start out not only with the technical basics, but also a comfortable environment with people at your level. Safety also means careful thought goes into the design of all our exercises. Not everyone can safely throw a 200 pound bar over their head, but there are hundreds of exercises that can be modified from couch potato to elite athlete. We will show you how.
At NAK² Academy our training programs all focus on precise technique and hard work, that is how you get results. If you want to kinda know how to do something you can get the dummies book or check out the video on youtube. If you really want to know how to do something you get a professional coach. That is not just our job, but our commitment to you. You should also expect to work hard. There is no substitute for reps and sweat, and we do that a lot, but it’s equally important to be mentally focused in what you do. This is hard work also and it shows both on and off the mat.
Finally, we are here to build a community. Jen and I have three kids, a St Bernard, a ferret, four cats (three that hitched a ride home with us from Thailand, don’t get me started on that story), and this business. If you are like us, life is super busy. You want to be in shape, you want something to relieve stress, you want to socialize, you want to learn and improve yourself. If you have to break that up in a bunch of pieces, the commute alone will kill you. At NAK² Academy we strive to put all of those things under one roof. At NAK² we are a traditional Muay Thai program. You will get in great shape, but this is not cardio-kickboxing. We do not blend arts and a patchwork of experience to create a Muay Thai class because it is popular in MMA.
Our program starts by building a solid foundation of basic techniques and conditioning. You will quickly learn why fighters are so ripped. Every strike challenges the whole body. Power comes from the ground and up through your legs and core.
Once you have basic technique you can begin to hit stuff. You will learn and get stronger on both sides of the pads. Hitting something will add resistance to already challenging movements and you will begin to discover the basics of timing and range. Repetition and conditioning are huge in this phase.
Advanced students will begin to learn high level concepts of range and timing combined with tricks and combinations. That is what makes the difference between being able to perform the technique and being able to land the technique in a fight. At this point the life-long journey of refinement begins.
As you progress down this path you will get stronger both physically and mentally. You will find limits and push past them. A Muay Thai fighter is humble and courageous but also powerful and aggressive. You may never aspire to step into the ring, but you will find all of these attributes within yourself at NAK² Muay Thai.
At NAK² we offer a beginners course in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Our program is not designed for advanced belts or competitors, but we do offer the new student a great opportunity to start out in a class with solid fundamentals. You won’t need to worry about being thrown around and twisted in knots by a bunch of upper level students.
There are so many benefits to learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practice is a great workout. Moving on the ground with the resistance of your own body and sometimes the weight of another person brings out a whole new level of fitness. You will also increase muscle tone, flexibility and joint mobility while burning a ton of calories.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is also a martial art that can be practiced at nearly 100% resistance with minimal risk of injury. Eye gouging and biting might work in a fight, but it’s hard to find partners to practice with.
At it’s core, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a self defense art that allows a smaller person to avoid getting hurt while controlling an attacker using leverage and technique. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu allows you to control your opponent, and from that control position, make a decision about how much or how little force you want to use.
Kick Booty, Women Only Fitness Bootcamp.
If you are reading this you are probably frustrated with your fitness level or your body. If so, there are some very important things to realize. Some of them are hard to face so get ready.
Almost everything you see in relation to fitness and weight loss will lead to failure.
Health clubs are huge and beautiful and cheap and almost everyone quits. You don’t always stop paying, but you still quit. That’s the business model. If the number of people that it takes to pay for the gym, came to the gym, you wouldn’t be able to get into the door.
Diets. I’ve been on one, You’ve been on one. We’ve been on the same one and we both hated it. Diet plans are temporary and a temporary fix will not cure a permanent problem.
Pills and potions. Billion dollar industry, everyone’s trying it, no one is getting results.
Now here is the hard part. Everything we need to succeed is right in front of us. We just lack the motivation and the discipline to use it. Would the exercise DVD work if we pressed play every day and followed the food guide. Yes it would, and you would look like one of the people on the infomercial. But that is not reality. What we all need is a little reality.
Here is what we do at NAK² Kick Booty, women’s only fitness bootcamp.
Discipline. It’s bootcamp. We yell at you. It’s hard but you do what you are told. It’s important to be in a group of people with discipline. Even if it’s just for that one hour a day it will prepare you to be what it takes to make good decisions throughout the day.
Motivation. It’s bootcamp. We yell at you. We are waiting for you to show up to class and so are all of the other people in bootcamp. Don’t let us down, don’t let them down, don’t let yourself down. We will help you find the motivation to succeed.
Fun: It’s bootcamp. We will yell at you. But you are going to love it, because it’s always different. Every workout is different so you don’t get bored. You don’t know what to expect, so every workout is a challenge.
Accountability: It’s bootcamp. We will yell at you. And measure you and weigh you. Someone needs to care enough to make you accountable. Bottom line, we want you to be successful.
